A journey of heart – and endurance
The Hartley Cycling Challenge is one of the most anticipated dates in the BellchambersBarrett calendar.
Every November, our team dusts off their bikes for an epic 315km ride around Jindabyne, including a ride up Charlotte Pass. Our mission? Raise vital funds for a non-profit very close to our hearts: Hartley Lifecare.
Cycling for a heartfelt cause
Hartley Lifecare is a Canberra-based non-profit organisation that provides high-quality, life-enhancing services to people with disabilities and their families.
So, when the annual three-day Hartley Cycling Challenge rolls around, the BellchambersBarrett team jumps. We know it’s more than a ride. It’s an investment in the fabric of our community.
A penchant for pedalling
Our team are a dedicated bunch. Since 2019, they’ve participated in the Challenge and contributed enormously to the cause.
And this year was no different. We raised $25,000 – bringing our total donations to $125,000. This money will go directly to helping Hartley Lifecare provide support for people living with a disability in Canberra – including one of our very own.
Dylan’s story
Our cycling team’s venerable captain, Dylan Valentine, led the charge on the day.
Dylan’s personal story is deeply connected with Hartley Lifecare through his mother’s full-time care. His story – and passion – remind us why we ride: not just for the physical challenge, but for the profound impact we can have on others’ lives.
Three days of epic riding
Thankfully, the weather was perfect for cycling. Unlike last year, there was no rain and only mild winds.
So the team – and the other participants – blitzed the ride around Jindabyne, up the revered climbs of Beloka and through the hills of Charlotte Pass. (All in their dapper striped jerseys, of course.)
Best of all, the Challenge participants raised a grand total of $218,000! A truly impressive sum, and we couldn’t be prouder to have helped.
Crossing the line with community support
We couldn’t have done it without the support of our wonderful community. So, thank you to all those who donated – and our altruistic team of riders and volunteers. Your perseverance inspires us!
Now, it’s time to rest, recover – and recharge for next year’s ride.
