‘We felt like we belonged from day one’ – Allison Armstrong, Liz Corbett and Courtney Carr
In July 2023, BellchambersBarrett and Accrue Chartered Accountants did something big.
We merged. And with that came a brand new office – and a swathe of new friendly faces.
We spoke with three of our newer colleagues who joined us following the Accrue merger – Allison Armstrong, Liz Corbett and Courtney Carr – to hear their stories and discover what they love most about BellchambersBarrett.
A new chapter begins
Change is often the only constant in the professional services. For Allison, Liz and Courtney, 2023 brought a big change indeed.
Accrue Chartered Accountants merged with BellchambersBarrett, moved offices, diversified its portfolios – and met a whole new line-up of colleagues.
Naturally, when one door closes and another opens, a range of feelings comes up. And for Allison, Liz and Courtney, there was a mixture of nervousness, excitement and anticipation.
‘I was a part of the Accrue team for over five years, so I knew the decision to merge with BellchambersBarrett was one that Accrue Directors Mark and Don didn’t take lightly,’ says Liz, a Senior Manager in Tax and Business Services.
‘They considered what was best for all staff at Accrue, so when the decision was announced, staying on was a no-brainer.’
Courtney, a Senior Consultant in Tax and Business Services, shared a similar sentiment.
‘I knew right away I would become part of the BellchambersBarrett team. The people at Accrue supported me so much over our three years together, so I was eager to continue that journey.’
Warm and welcoming from day one
While change can certainly be clunky, Senior Manager in Business Services Allison says the transition was, in fact, smooth sailing.
‘The merger was a seamless transition. All the partners ensured we were informed and involved. So when we moved, the new office space felt like ours as much as BellchambersBarrett’s.
‘Most importantly, the BellchambersBarrett team was exceptionally welcoming. We felt like we belonged from day one.’
Liz agrees.
‘Everyone was so warm and friendly. I know that at BellchambersBarrett, there’s a genuine care, appreciation and value of all staff. I see it every day – whether it’s through one-on-one coaching, social events or cross-team collaboration.’
‘There’s a strong sense of community and ample support of our people’s professional and personal goals,’ adds Courtney. ‘This welcoming, genuinely kind and supportive atmosphere has made all the difference.’
New opportunities unfold
With the merger came new opportunities for the trio.
Liz found herself working on more diverse projects, where her strategic thinking elevated our firm’s service delivery.
‘I have greater opportunity to work on a wider range of projects, which I love. Plus, I’m collaborating with a larger team, improving client outcomes. The extra community involvement is another bonus!’
With her flair for high quality service, Allison has continued to work directly with her clients to deliver exceptional results.
‘I’m proud to produce strong outcomes for the firm and my clients. And as I balance hard work with raising a family, I truly value BellchambersBarrett’s modern benefits package. It allows me to maintain work-life balance.’
And Courtney’s career has continued to go from strength to strength – thanks, in part, to the formal and informal mentoring at BellchambersBarrett.
‘I’ve met so many new people, and learning from them and their experiences has been the highlight of this merger so far.’
Looking ahead with optimism
While sometimes daunting, transitions can be opportunities to discover new strengths, forge new paths and contribute in previously unimagined ways.
And Allison, Liz and Courtney’s stories have proven this to be true.
We’re so grateful they – and all the Accrue staff – have joined us. And we’re beyond excited to watch their careers flourish.
