‘I’ve never met a finer bunch of professional people’ – Tino Di Placido
In 2014, Tino Di Placido sold his accounting firm to Accrue. Then, when Accrue merged with BellchambersBarrett in 2023, he stayed on. As for his short but sweet time here, he has nothing but glowing praise.
Thank you to Tino for sharing the story of his long and illustrious career – in his words.
Through the years
After working my way up in the accounting industry – including 20 years as a CFO for Mother Nature Top Fruit Shops, National Capital Motors, ShopRite, Helkor, and Cannons, plus contracting for a few small accounting firms – I started my own accounting practice in 1994.
Fast-forward another 20 years to 2014. With a large client portfolio to my name, Accrue approached me. They wanted to buy my practice and expand their business. At that point, I was nearly ready to retire, so I went ahead and sold to Accrue but stayed on to manage my clients.
Then, almost another decade later, Accrue merged with BellchambersBarrett in 2023. Which is where I am now!
An insider’s perspective
BellchambersBarrett has been a wonderful place to work. The atmosphere is relaxed, with no egos in sight – something I value highly.
I’m lucky to have befriended so many people here. Everyone is easygoing and supportive. It’s been a pleasure getting to know them personally at all our social events.
While I’m ready to let the young people inherit my client base, I often think how enjoyable it would have been to join a firm like BellchambersBarrett earlier in my career! They’re very lucky.
Passing the torch
My advice to the younger people at BellchambersBarrett has been simple: work hard and give it your all, because you reap what you sow. In my time here, I’ve seen the firm provide ample opportunities to those who show they want it. Ultimately, your efforts determine your outcomes.
Mentoring junior staff over the last year allowed me to share the experiences and tips I’ve picked up along the way. I recall one staff member asking me, ‘How do I become more successful?’ I found this question both amusing and flattering. It’s been an honour to support so many talented individuals.
I believe that to achieve your long-term career goals, all the work you do at the beginning will eventually bear fruit. It may not happen in a week or a month. It could take 9 or 10 years. But you will see the rewards, especially if the company is as supportive as BellchambersBarrett.
As I look forward to ticking off the rest of my bucket list – which includes more fishing trips, hikes, motorbike rides and more – I’ll always remember my time at BellchambersBarrett fondly.
